Combined heat and power (CHP) is the production of usable heat and power (electricity), in one single, highly efficient process.
The CHP generates electricity while capturing usable heat from the engine. This is totally opposite with conventional ways of generating electricity where vast amounts of heat is simply wasted. The overall efficiency of a CHP plant can reach in excess of 85% in addition to generating electricity.


In today’s coal and gas fired power stations, up to two thirds of the overall energy used is lost in this way, often seen as a cloud of steam bellowing from cooling towers.


CHP’s can operate using renewable or fossil fuels. The technologies employed and the efficiencies they achieve will vary, but in every situation using a CHP is efficient and one of the most effective ways of using the planets valuable resources.
